Most of the tropical orchids grown in greenhouses in temperate climates produce their spectacular and exotic flowers in autumn and winter, and the orchid house in the Botanical Garden also shows its most magnificent face at this time. Our collection presents more than 300 specimens of about 90 genera, including so-called botanical species and hybrids. Most of our tropical orchids live in greenhouses and live on trees (epiphytes), but there are also soil-dwelling ones, such as the extremely exotic-looking slipper orchids. Among our orchid species that require colder conditions, our boat orchids begin to open their petals at this time.
This year, for the third time, visitors will have the opportunity to admire the Orchid House of the Botanical Garden on thematic guided tours, which are held by the curator of the orchid collection.
Due to the location, the number of people allowed to participate in the guided tours is limited (max. 15 people/occasion).
The dates are: Saturday, February 8, 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Participation in the one-hour program is subject to registration. Applications are welcome at sztary.erika@szte.hu. Please write down the names of the participants, their contact information and the chosen time.
The entrance fee for the program is 4,000 HUF/person - which includes the botanical garden entrance ticket - and can be purchased at the Botanical Garden box office before the guided tours.
